WHO: National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC)

WHERE: www.nvic.org and www.vaccinememorial.org

THE NEED: To  assist parents whose children have suffered vaccine reactions; promote research to evaluate vaccine safety and effectiveness as well as to identify factors which place individuals at high risk for suffering vaccine reactions; monitor vaccine research, development, policy-making and legislation.

INFOVISON'S SOLUTION: A dynamic website and extensive email distribution strategy that also allows NVIC to take contributions securely over the Web.

The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is a national, non-profit educational organization founded in 1982. It is the oldest and largest national organization advocating reformation of the mass vaccination system and is responsible for launching the vaccine safety movement in America in the early 1980’s. Located in Vienna, Virginia, NVIC is dedicated to the prevention of vaccine injuries and deaths through public education.

Until a few years ago, NVIC provided information through regular U.S. mail and over the telephone. The organization decided to get onto the Information Superhighway with a website created and hosted by InfoVision. Beginning with basic information about their organization, mission, and so forth, NVIC expanded their information offerings to include press releases, informational documents on polio, autism, hepatitis B, as well as vaccine related conference announcements.

Soon it became obvious that the website was a perfect medium for disseminating news alerts and up-to-date information quickly and cost-effectively. Instead of relying on the slow process of printing and mailing the information, breaking news stories on vaccine research or reports that offered timely information could be made available over the Web in a matter of hours as the need arose.

The next step was to reach the public more directly through an opt-in email mailing list.  With InfoVision’s automated email subscription, interested parents and professionals could subscribe to the NVIC email mailing list on-line and receive breaking news, press releases, and other timely announcements.

Another feature of the website, an SSL secure order form, makes it possible for NVIC to take orders and membership contributions over the Web.

With the ability to connect with millions of people via the Internet and a partnership with InfoVision, the potential for NVIC is boundless.
